Our second coming out story is from MJ, the Local Chapter (NL) Secretary for the Stichting Filipino LGBT Europe.

“I remember when I was a kid I was playing barbie doll and chinese garter while visiting friends. My father picked me up and on our way home my dad told me “ayusin mo ang paglalakad mo, huwag ‘yong pa kembot-kembot!” Suddenly, I had to walk like a tigasin sa kalye and I was like, paano ba? Jusko lord ang hirap!

“I heard from my neighbors that my parents knew I was gay! I cried with happy tears and I couldn’t explain the happiness when I heard those words!”

I asked myself often in the years to come specially when I realized I am attracted to the same sex. It came to a point where there was not a day goes by without a fight with my brother in order for me to fight off my identity. Which I always lost anyway! But my feelings didn’t change and after long talk with myself I have finally accepted that I am gay.

On my 21st birthday, I invited all my gay and trans friends with the concerns on how my family would react but I told myself, come what may batman will save me. To my surprise, my friends were happily accepted and welcomed. It was one of the most unforgettable birthday I ever had in my life. The next day, I heard from my neighbors that my parents knew I was gay! I cried with happy tears and I couldn’t explain the happiness when I heard those words!”
