Today as we celebrate the National Coming Out day, we want to celebrate those who gave us strenght, those who inspire us, and those who serve as a beacon of light when we are confused, worried and afraid that no one will accept and love us.

On today’s out & proud story we want to share with you an email exchange between Makaw and this stranger he met when he was still in high school. The stranger that inspired him to come out and be honest to himself.

“My journey of being honest with myself and being able to accept the whole of me really accelerated after meeting you” Makaw said in his email.

The stranger replied back to Makaw with enthusiam thanking him for sharing his story and congratulating him for his bravery.  “Thank you for sharing it with me. You should also thank yourself for being brave and courageous. May your actions and deeds serves as a light for other” the stranger said.

Letter from Makaw:

You don’t know about it, but you inspired me to come out back then.

Seeing you so alive, happy, and such an achiever as well made me realise that it was ok to be gay. It was nothing to be ashamed of.

Hi Chris,

Not sure if you remember me, but we met ages ago at some Lasallian Conference for students. You were in college already and I was in high school.

Im writing to thank you for making an impact on my life. You don’t know about it, but you inspired me to come out back then. Seeing you so alive, happy, and such an achiever as well made me realise that it was ok to be gay. It was nothing to be ashamed of.

My journey of being honest with myself and being able to accept the whole of me really accelerated after meeting you.

So it’s national coming out day today and I just want to tahnk you for helping me come out. Thanks so much and hope youre having a great time whereever you are! 😉

Reply from the stranger:

Hi Makaw,

Nice to hear from you. Your email to me today is a wonderful story to read. I am so happy that you have learned to accept and love yourself and I’ve been an instrument for that.

As a great teacher from thousand of years ago said to love your neighbour as yourself. I always believe that we can only do this if we have love within ourselves to share. As when our mind is free from negative thoughts, our emotions and actions will reflect it.

I am really happy to read that I had a strong and powerful impact in your life. Thank you for sharing it with me. You should also thank yourself for being brave and courageous. May your actions and deeds serves as a light for other. 😉

Chris
