STATEMENT ON DISCRIMINATION OF ASIANS DUE TO COVID-19

The Filipino LGBT Europe would also like to address an equally important issue that our members of community have been facing in these critical times. Recently the number of racist and discriminatory incidents against Asians have risen rapidly because of the pandemic crisis which originated in China. Across Europe, Filipinos and other people with Asian roots have become a target of discrimination and racial profiling.

While we recognise the fear and frustration the uncertainty creates, WE CONDEMN any forms of individual acts of aggressions, verbal harassments or violence addressed to people with Asian roots, LGBT people, and other vulnerable minorities due to Covid-19 association.

Filipino LGBT Europe is very grateful to ALL COVID-19 FRONTLINERS for the tireless efforts, dedication and professionalism they continuously demonstrate during this pandemic.

We SINCERELY THANK ALL MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS: Doctors, Nurses and all Hospital Staff for the sacrifices they are making in these extraordinary challenging times.

We also would like to THANK ALL OTHER KEY WORKERS who keep our community running – – those who keep our food supply running like delivery drivers, those working in the supermarkets and those who are collecting our waste, cleaning and sanitising our streets and those who are keeping peace and order.

Like ALL LGBTs around the world, WE SEE YOUR UNIQUE and VITAL CONTRIBUTION to our community and we salute you for your act of bravery to leave your home and family to courageously continue your service to our society.

We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone to CONNECT to your FAMILY, FRIENDS and LOVED ONES to remind them that they are not alone in this battle and that they are LOVED. Let us also think of other members of our community that might need our help, those who are in the high risk groups like the elderlies or the sick.

Let us DEMONSTRATE OUR SUPPORT to all frontliners by STAYING AT HOME and DOING OUR PART IN “FLATTENING THE CURVE”.
