Ayuda sa Amsterdam Heroes: Maurits

This week’s Ayuda sa Amsterdam Hero is Maurits. Born and raised in The Netherlands and has been part of the Filipino LGBT community for many years.

Maurits had a Filipino partner and feels a huge and intimate connection with the Filipino community. He has been an active volunteer not just in the AYUDA program but also in the Filipino LGBT Europe’s participation at the 2019 Pride Amsterdam.

Maurits was one of our Ambassadors of Love from the Moro Tribe, ultimately helping the team clinch the 3rd place on Best Boat Design in 2019.

His favourite island in the Philippines is Camiguin and has spent quite some time in Pasig City and has visited the country five times.

“I live around the corner of the location of the AYUDA program so spending two hours wearing pink safety jacket isn’t too much for me. I hope that the situation will be back to normal soon, but until then, I will join to help as much as I can,” he said.

“It feels good not just to help but to be part of a group during times of isolation due to the pandemic. The team’s great energy, lots of laughters and of course the delicious Filipino food served at the end of the day. My favorite food is bibingka and fresh lumpia.”
