Filipino LGBT Europe joins Sant’Egidio Community in celebration of its 54th anniversary of the community

Last Sunday, 27 March a festive celebration of thanksgiving in Moses and Aaron Church was presided over by Cardinal Anders Arborelius, Bishop of Stockholm, who had come to Amsterdam especially for the occasion. Cardinal Arborelius was joined together by Msgr.Jan Hendriks, Bishop of Haarlem-Amsterdam, and Rector Rick Hoet.

Filipino LGBT Europe chairperson Chris Sta Brigida and Filipino LGBT Netherlands Coordinator Mary Grace Albaran joined and represented the Filipino Community in this occasion.

Since October 2020, Mozes and Aaron church has been the weekly Food Aid distribution and collection point for the Filipino Community in Amsterdam. From February 2021, the church also served as a medical point for the community where they received free doctor’s consultation, basic medicines and other medical care. From February 2022, it started to be a source of learning and developments through various workshops and trainings offered to the community in the church.

“Moses and Aaron church / Sant’Egidio Community opened its door to us in October 2020. It was in the hype of covid 19 pandemic, it was starting to get cold and wet and we were looking for a place where we can continue to distribute help to our community. We will never forget this kindness and their continued generosity to our community.” Sta Brigida said.

Sant’Egidio Community is a lay Catholic association dedicated to social service. The Community pays attention to the periphery and peripheral people, gathering men and women of all ages and conditions, united by a fraternal tie through the listening of the Gospel and the voluntary and free commitment for the poor and peace. Prayer, poor and peace are its fundamentals points of reference.
